QMx to produce ship models and other memorabilia for reimagined Trek

LOS ANGELES, CA — May 8, 2009–Quantum Mechanix Inc. (QMx) is pleased to announce that it has secured the rights from CBS Consumer Products to produce collectibles for the new Star Trek movie directed by J.J. Abrams.

Among the QMx collectible items will be studio-scale and mid-scale limited-edition replicas of ships that appear in Star Trek.

Already in the works is the Artisan Edition Studio-Scale U.S.S. Enterprise, a 34-inch-long film-quality replica with working lights and a screen-accurate paint job. Like all QMx Artisan replicas, the Enterprise will be 100% made-to-order in the U.S.A. with the finest detailing and greatest precision.

QMx has pioneered the U.S.-based development and manufacture of licensed, made-to-order ship replicas. Each Artisan ship is assembled, wired and painted by hand in a working model effects shop. This process, while more resource intensive and more time-consuming than overseas manufacture, ensures discerning collectors get a replica of unsurpassed quality.

QMx also plans to produce mid-scale replicas (~10 inches) of ships seen in the movie. These mid-scale replicas combine the best qualities of mass-produced studio-scale models – accurate design and hand-painted detailing – for a fraction of the price, offering the demanding collector a terrific value.

"J.J. Abrams’ vision for Star Trek – sci-fi’s most-venerated franchise – is nothing short of transcendent," said Andy Gore, QMx's president. "We’re deeply honored by this opportunity to develop collectibles that we hope will surprise and delight Star Trek fans."

Star Trek collectibles will be available in comic, collector and specialty stores around the country, and are also available directly at www.qmxonline.com.
